Children Concerned's Future
Posted 4/11/2007
Dear friends and fellow-supporters of Children Concerned,
I was so blessed these past ten days!
I left for Monrovia on the 27th of April, but myself and nine other Americans got delayed in Brussels, Belgium, because of a bad hydraulic line in the airplane. The delay was an appointment disguised, as it was an exciting time getting to know these people and hear how God was using everybody in different ways to bring glory to Himself!
While in Monrovia, I had meetings with many people...some who run orphanages and others in the Liberian government who work with NGO's (Non-Governmental Organizations, or what we would call, "non-profit agencies").
God is opening doors for us in the much-needed work in Liberia!
I looked at several large parcels of land, one 80 acres - it was just beautiful! It would be an ideal site to build a work upon.
We have been praying for the many friends and children in Liberia, for God to make a way for us to minister to them effectively. We have made contact with the proper authorities in Liberia regarding the many possibilities; like building a large orphanage home with a medical facility, widows' home, school, library, etc.
Our hearts so much want to help those who are past the age of adoption!
We desire to help them to learn a trade. Boys could be taught carpentry, auto mechanics, electric, etc. The older girls could learn sewing, African tie-dye of fabrics for tablecloths and clothing, jewelry, etc. which could be sold. The list of possibilities is endless!!
We would also like to equip the children to learn how to outreach into the villages where there is such need...
We went to many homes within the villages that had no indoor bathroom, only out-houses; many had no screening on windows, they had leaky roofs and the structures were in great need of general repair.
In one village there were literally thousands in need. We were able to help only one widow and her six children. We got new walls for her house and had a thin concrete pad put down so her children did not have to keep sleeping on the mud floor. They were so thankful! But we left feeling we wanted to have helped her even more...they needed mats to sleep upon, not concrete. They needed a door, not a sheet, screening for the windows, mosquito nets to protect them from the dangers of Malaria, pots & pans, adequate sanitation; not to mention food, industry to provide for her poor family, schooling for the children...
We ask you all to continue to pray for us and look forward with us to Children Concerned's future work in Liberia!
All who want to work with us and support us in these many endeavors as the Lord leads and directs your paths; feel free to contact me anytime! My number is: 716.954.3372.
