Zackey's to speak in Texas

Ladies,
Tom and Candy Zackey of Children Concerned will be speaking in Texas the first weekend in June! Many of you heard Candy share about Liberia and the work Children Concerned is embarking upon in this war-ravaged nation in Africa at the Texas Above Rubies retreat last month.
Liberia is a West African country that has close ties to America because it was founded in the 19th century by freed American slaves. During the late 1980's through 2003 the country was in an almost continuous state of civil war as several rebel factions fought against the Liberian government for control of the country. A quarter of a million people were killed and thousands became refugees. Children captured by the rebels were made slaves or soldiers, and the whole infrastructure of the country was destroyed. (electricity, running water, schools, hospitals, roads were all destroyed) Right now the U.N. has deployed peacekeeping forces into Liberia but the future of the country remains uncertain. The only thing that can turn the future of Liberia around is the Love of Jesus, and we as Christians are faced with the unique opportunity of helping spread the gospel and literally changing history in Africa!
The Zackeys founded Children Concerned in 2005 after witnessing the devastation of Liberia and the numerous children left as orphans. Children Concerned has worked hand-in-hand with Above Rubies in caring for the children of Liberia. Tom and Candy and their 18 children (9 birth-children and 9 African) are based in Buffalo, NY but spend part of the year in Liberia working on projects and leading mission teams. God has given the Zackey's a new vision for the orphans of Liberia that will help rebuild communities while giving the orphans job skills for the future. Those of us who have heard Candy at an AR retreat have been touched by the message she shared about ministering to this nation. When the Zackeys come to Texas, our husbands, pastors, and friends can hear the message, too!
Tom and Candy will be speaking at ECCLESIA in Houston on Friday evening, the 1st of June. They will be at Chapel In The Woods Bible Church at 1:30 PM on Saturday the 2nd of June. If anyone in the DFW area has an opening for them to speak during a Sunday service on the 3rd, please contact me asap with details. In the meantime, spread the word that the Zackeys will be here and let's get a huge turnout!
